The “Gandhi Odu Abhiyana” program encourages children to learn about and comprehend Mahatma Gandhi’s life. A cultural group, Samudaya, has organized a reading campaign for 1,000 students from several high schools in Kundapur.
Last year, Gandhi Odu Abhiyana was introduced in Kundapur, Siddapur, and Bramhavar, with plans to expand to additional districts shortly. In the previous several months, 35 of the 50 high schools in the area have engaged in the campaign and have undertaken various activities such as reading books, drawing posters, and quizzes. The book “Makkaligagi Mahatma” (Mahatma for children), authored and drawn by Uday Gaonkar, a science teacher at the government high school, was given to the first group of students on Monday.
The Kannada book “Makkaligagi Mahatma” is an attempt to bring the life and struggles of Gandhi to young readers in an engaging way. With a QR code in the book, students can access question papers and quizzes related to Gandhi. The book, published by BGVS, costs Rs 20 and already has a pre-booked order for 5,000 copies.
