On August 5, the professor and the registrar will meet with the deputy commissioner in the presence of college union representatives to determine how examinations will be conducted. Due to the KSRTC strike and lockdown, the undergraduate test that began in the final week of March had to be interrupted in the middle. So far, 72% of the examinations have taken place. The postgraduate examinations were originally set to begin on April 26 but were later rescheduled for August 5. Students may have four papers pending on average.
Meanwhile, students protested under the banner of the ABVP, demanding Mangalore University to hold the examinations, which were postponed on the deputy commissioner’s orders due to an increase in Covid-19 cases. In a petition to the vice-chancellor of Mangalore University, the students stated that the bulk of students studying undergraduate courses were from the area, with only a few from Kerala. Students are protesting. It was not appropriate to postpone the examinations without warning. Exams for engineering courses are being held at VTU. Even the state government followed the Covid-19 rules for administering SSLC exams. Similarly, undergraduate examinations should be done with the students’ best interests in mind.
Following receipt of a memorandum, the vice-chancellor or chief minister stated that the registrars would meet with the deputy commissioner to persuade him to enable the university to conduct examinations under the Covid-19 standards. If Kerala students are unable to take the examinations owing to border constraints, the university will hold a special exam for them in the coming days. The examinations will be held as per UGC standards, as addressed by the professor, and a decision will be made on August 5 after meeting with the DC.
