Mangaluru: 132-year-old police station at Bunder renovated

The 132-year-old Mangaluru north police station, which is located in Bunder, has been refurbished thanks to the efforts of the inspector Govind Raju, who served there from 2019 to 2021. The police station is one of the city’s oldest structures and is a striking edifice. Inspector Govind Raju expressed an interest in restoring the structure, which was in a deteriorated state.

The inspector renovated the building with the help of the community. At a cost of Rs7-8 lac, the roof, floor, paint, electric work, parking shed, and flag post were all repaired and renovated. The building stunned Police Commissioner N Shashi Kumar, who shared the structure’s history on social media. Later, he went to the police station. The structure was constructed in 1889 for Rs 16,000 on a 0.67-acre plot of land. Shashi Kumar was accompanied by DCP Hariram Shankar, BP Dinesh Kumar, ACP Hegde, and others.
