General management visited the city’s main train station on Tuesday, December 21, to inspect the railway systems and ongoing construction projects. The central station’s pit line work is already underway and will be completed by March. Following that, work on new platforms will commence, with completion expected in six months. Grants have been received, and the process of contracting out the work has started.
Railway traffic congestion at the central station here will be a thing of the past once the fourth and the fifth platforms are commissioned by September 2022 next year. This was declared by the general manager of the Southern Railway.
He also stated that the new platforms will pave the way for more trains to run from this station in response to the district’s needs. Trilok Kothari, the divisional manager of Palakkad, was present. Members of the West Coast Railway Committee handed over a petition to the Chief Minister asking for an extension of the Mumbai CST Express train to central station and a halt for the Matsyagandha Express train.
