Mangaluru: On Saturday, a compressed natural gas (CNG) bus began service on the Karavali Coast. As per the owner of the Adyar bus, the Tata bus currently runs between Uppinangady and Mangaluru. The bus costs around Rs 30 lakh, including registration fees, which is about Rs 3.5 lakh more than the diesel version.
CNG buses are considered a cleaner alternative to petrol and diesel, which cause heavy air pollution. The driver who drove the bus on his first journey was a smooth and enjoyable ride. But, filling the gas tanks has been a cause of concern for the operators. There are only 3 CNG refilling stations in Hosabettu-at Kolnad, Kavoor, in operation.
