In many places in and around our country, one can see heaps of garbage bags stacked on the roadsides. Unfortunately, this has become a common practice despite the fact that people know its ill effects. As a remedy to this practice in the city, Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) will install CCTV cameras in many places in the city in order that disposing litter in public places is reduced.
In addition to this, strict guidelines instructing citizens about methods of waste segregation will also be employed so that building debris as well as wet waste are not carelessly disposed of. Health and sanitation department has been instructed by the MCC Commissioner, Akshy Sridhar to take care of the installation process of CCTV cameras wherever the practice of improper waste disposal is rather prominent. 169 such places which are referred to as black spots have already been identified within the jurisdiction of 60 wards. Later after checking how the system works, further arrangements to install cameras in other places will also be made.
In this step’s initial stages, in addition to installation of CCTv cameras, a large amount of money will be levied as fine if rules are violated.
