With the two-week curfew imposed in Karnataka not yielding significant results and COVID-19 cases on the rise in the state, the Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa in a statement noted the inevitability of a complete lockdown. The State has thus imposed a two-week total lockdown from 6 am on May 10, 2021 to 6 am on May 24, 2021.

The new guidelines and restrictions were issued as the State reported 48,781 fresh COVID-19 cases with 592 fatalities in the last 24 hours.
What will be open?
- Movement of essential goods and services are allowed while shops with groceries, fruits and vegetables can operate from 6 am to 6 pm.
- Hotels, restaurants and eateries are only allowed to operate their kitchens so as to provide takeaways and home delivery.
- Takeaways from standalone liquor shops and outlets are allowed from 6 am to 10 am.
- Cargo vehicles and road repair activities can function.
- Marriages already scheduled can take place, with a maximum of ONLY 50 people allowed. However, Covid-appropriate behaviour must be strictly followed.
- Banks, insurance offices and ATMs will function.
- Cremation and funerals with a maximum of ONLY 5 individuals will be permitted. However, Covid-appropriate behaviour must be strictly followed.
- Flights and trains scheduled will function.
What stays closed?
- Hotels, pubs, bars and other industries that are not categorized as essential services will not be allowed to operate.
- All educational institutions will remain closed while online and distance learning will take place.
- All cinema halls, theatres, auditoriums, assembly halls, clubs, bars, entertainment parks, swimming pools, parks, stadiums, playgrounds, sports complexes, gymnasiums and shopping malls will remain closed.
- All religious places will remain closed for the public.
- All social, political, sports, religious events and gatherings are banned for the period of the lockdown.
- Metro rail services will be suspended.
- Taxis, autos and the services of cabs will be suspended. However, they can be HIRED IN CASE OF EMERGENCIES or for essential services.
- Movement of public or private buses, passenger vehicles and so on is prohibited, except for essential services.
