The Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner told the people to remain cautious because of the newly reported nipah virus in Kerala. The nipah virus has been reported once again in Kerala and ended up taking the life of the individual. The DC added that a large number of people commute between Kerala and Karnataka for education and health purposes, this creates concern among the officials.
The nipah virus is a zoological virus that can be transmitted from animals to humans or can transmit from one human to the other. Washing hands regularly and staying away from virus-causing animals like bats and pigs are most important to curb the spread. It is instructed not to eat partly bitten fruits to ensure that the virus is not spread. The illness can range from asymptomatic to acute respiratory illness and fatal encephalitis apart from fever, headache, cough, and throat pain.
