The E-RUPI vouchers will first be accessible for health services, but they will eventually be extended to other government benefit programs. The Prime Minister introduced the ‘e-RUPI’ one-time cashless and contactless digital payment vouchers on August 2nd, intending to catalyze the direct distribution of subsidies to recipients without any leakage.
As per the Prime Minister, although the e-RUPI vouchers will initially only be accessible for health services, they will progressively expand to include other government assistance programs and can also be used by businesses. In addition to the government, any organization that wants to assist someone with their treatment, education, or another job will be able to do so by providing an e-RUPI voucher rather than cash. It will make certain that the money he has provided is used for the purpose for which it was donated.
The digital solution was created by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) in collaboration with the Department of Financial Services (DFS), the National Health Authority (NHA), the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), and commercial banks. The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) was the one that discussed it. Users of this smooth one-time payment mechanism will be able to redeem the voucher at retailers who accept e-RUPI without a card, digital payments app, or internet banking access. Organizations or the government would share e-RUPI with beneficiaries for a specific purpose or activity via SMS or QR code on their website.
Over 17.5 lakh crore has been sent directly to the accounts of the underprivileged through DBT, helping 900 million Indians in the form of cooking gas subsidy, ration, medical care, scholarship, pension, and salary disbursal.
