Ready, Set, Go Pink! Moms of Mangalore Walk for Breast Cancer Awareness

In honor of this year’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Moms of Mangalore, a group affiliated to 38,000 mothers of the region proudly hosted the MOM Pink Walk. Community members came together to show their support for those battling the disease. From whole families, special children, to the visually impaired, all came together with a view of supporting the fighters, honouring the taken and admiring the survivors of breast cancer. Each person who came for the event had a different reason, but all supported the same cause.

The MOM PINK Walk raised funds over Rs 1 lakh to assist cancer patients with any financial obstacles that may affect their ability to get treatment. The walk started from Bharath mall at 7 am, and  took the members to Circuit house and back to the starting point . Mrs Corrine Rasquinha, founder of White doves and a breast cancer survivor herself flagged off the walk.

Dr Ektha Shetty , consultant OBG -Father Muller Hospital addressed the participants on early detection and prevention. The event culminated with a fun filled power backed Zumba to promote a healthy lifestyle. The participants danced along to the music, and enjoyed everything the event had to offer. Dr Kusum D’sa felicitated the participants with finisher medals and certificates Dr Vidya D’souza, Radhika Bhat, Dr Shilpa Shreyas, Meghna Shetty , Dr Kusum D’sa the admins of MOM were present at the event and ensured the event was a triumph

“It’s all about bringing attention to awareness. When you really think about it, if not directly, indirectly. We know someone who’s battling or have battled, and we just wanted to bring awareness up in our city and MOM community to let people know about resources. Also, one of the objectives of funding the treatment of cancer patients who are in need.” said Lyvia Cardoza, community manager at Moms of Mangalore.

This event was much needed, so people can really be aware, know what they need to do for early detection and prevention.  The sponsors and collaborators of this event were Fr Mullers Hospital, Maharaja restaurant, Shan’s Fit Fusion, Kamath’s Food Express, Decathlon, Over doze, Brand sports, media partners 92.7 Big FM and Mangalore Meri Jaan.

A plethora of enthusiastic moms got together, whose support and participation along with the efforts of admins and moderators of MOM defined the success of the event. As Moms of Mangalore intends to get involved in more social responsibilities in the region while supporting each other through various services it renders through its online group, mothers are encouraged to join this group and make use of the opportunities. They are also called to make a small effort to making a difference in the lives of other mothers and the community at large
