On July 19, heavy rains continued to fall over Karnataka’s coastal regions, flooding many highways and residential areas in Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, and other districts. Water flooded across the Chelyadka bridge linking Kunjoorupanja and Panaje in Puttur, halting vehicle traffic for the second time in five days. Residents of many villages, including Ajjikallu, Gummategadde, Kapikadu, and Olathadka, were left stranded over the weekend due to the lack of vehicular traffic.
Heavy rains are expected to persist in the state till July 23, particularly in the coastal and Malnad regions. As a result, a red warning has been issued for the districts of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Uttara Kannada until 8.30 a.m. on July 20, after which an orange alert was issued till July 23.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned fishermen not to go out into the water since the surf is still choppy. Since Sunday afternoon, heavy rain and thunderstorms have been reported in the taluks of Sedam, Chittapur, and Kalagi in Kalaburagi. The Kamalavati and Kagina rivers have seen increased water levels as a result of the recent rainfall. At the same time, the district government in Udupi relocated flood victims from residential areas to safer regions. Several residences in the Karandadi, Majoor, Mallar, and Uliyaru regions were flooded, and the flowing water flooded several layouts in Udupi town.
