The Karnataka government stated on Monday that physical education lessons for students in grades 1 through 5 will resume on October 25. Schools for these primary classes will open on October 25 with a 50% capacity, as per a government decree. Classes will be held with physical separation between students and will be sterilized daily. Teachers in all classrooms must be fully vaccinated, which means they must have received both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.
To attend lessons, students must get a letter of approval from their parents. Students who do not choose to attend physical classrooms will be able to complete their education online. Teachers over the age of 50 will be required to wear a face shield in the classroom. As the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education in Karnataka had previously stated that the state planned to restart classes 1-5 following the Durga Puja vacations. Offline classes for grades 6-12 have been operating at full capacity since October 1 in districts with a Covid-positivity rate of less than 1%.
