The Dakshina Kannada higher secondary primary school Tiruvali Vamanjoor marks a history of 100 years. Around seven years back, the school was on the verge of shutting down due to a lack of students in the school. When Raghu Salian and corporate Hemalatha Raghu Salian noticed this, they decided to save the school from closing down.
Over the past few years, many schools have been shutting down due to the lack of school strength. Many organizations have been working hard to stop schools from closing down.
They visited the houses nearby to spread awareness and bring children to the school. Several more students joined once the classes for LKG and UKG started. They would also bring students to the school in their vehicles. Over the years, the number came up to 250 from 70. The school surroundings also became greener and students even got a small play area.
The corporator told that she and her husband studied in the school and it felt heart-wrenching to know that the school was on the verge of shutting down. Hence they decided to take immediate measures to save the school. Today the school is standing tall, facing all the difficult times. Raghu told the media that the school has a history of 100 years and was on the verge of shutting down around eight years back. He said that they held meetings and discussed how to save the school from shutting down. Even before his wife became the corporator, they have worked relentlessly to bring back the school. They would speak to the locals and motivate students to attend the school. After a lot of hard work and tiresome planning, they’ve finally bought back the school’s life. They are also very thankful to the MLA Dr.Bharat Shetty. The school now requires better infrastructure along with more teachers and other facilities.
The headmaster of the school told them that their school was on the verge of shutting down, wherein Raghu Salian and Hemalatha Salian took charge of bringing back the school. He shared that the number of students has increased and this was the effort of the couple and others who supported them. The school also had students coming from Bondathilla, Bondel, and Gurpur. The number of students increased further after the corporation and her husband donated a school bus to the school, which helped increase the number of students. Under the guidance of Victor Stanley Coutinho, the school also has a strong old students association.
The NHAI has declared that the school will.be demolished for road expansion, however, there hasn’t been a good solution to this until now. With the help of MRPL and NMPT, they’ve constructed three more classrooms. The school now needs seven classrooms, computer rooms, and teachers’ rooms.
A student shared with the media that she feels extremely happy to be studying here. The school has much more facilities now than it had before. She remarked that earlier there were very few students coming to school, while the number has increased to 250 now. The teachers are also supportive. The students are extremely happy to be coming back after the online sessions.
