The issues relating to fake negative PCR certificates have become troublesome for officials. The Deputy commissioner said that earlier, people with fake certificates were sent back, wherein now they’ve decided to file FIRs against such individuals. He added that the problem is that there are around 42 points connecting Karnataka to Kerala. Only 17 crossings are actively monitored by delegated teams made up of revenue officers, police and other government staff. What makes it tougher is that there are about 80 crossing points in total and the district administration can not fully monitor all the places.
The rise in cases in Kerala, along with the issue of negative PCR certificates, has become a cause of concern for the officials.
The additional chief secretary (Health) told the media that the issue of fake certificates is forcing the administration to consider quarantines for inter-state travellers. The state of Kerala is considering a lockdown to curb the spread of disease, while there is widespread skepticism that it will prevent the state’s outbreak from spilling over into Dakshina Kannada.
He also told the media that the state has increased the number of tests at the borders by two times. They’re also considering saturating people living in a buffer zone 10 km from the border with vaccinations.
