After Kannada film industry’s first family portraying its dissent against the government’s decision to allow theatres in the state to function with half its capacity, Karnataka government has now allowed theatres on an experimental basis to work with its full capacity for 4 weeks.
Punit Rajkumar, kannada film actor had taken to Twitter expressing his disagreement with the government stating that only the film industry in the state was affected while shops, markers and other commercial facilities had been allowed to function in its previous capacities. This tweet by the youngest son of Kannada theatre artist Dr. Rajkumar had spread like wildfire on social media websites and his elder brother and Kannada actor Shiva Rajkumar had also extended a hand of support followed by other Sandalwood stars joined in to voice their dissent.
Chief Minister B. S Yeddyurappa then assigned Health Minister K. Sudhakar to make a solution to resolve the situation amicably while a delegation of film actors and technicians led by Shava rajkumar also submitted their memorandum to the Chief Minister. A meeting was then held on Wednesday with K. Sudhakar and the delegation as per instructions from Chief Minister Yeddiyurappa.
Sudhakar informed that after many discussions and rethinking, theatres will be allowed to function with 100 percent capacity. He also said that the Kannada film industry suggested to reconsider the decision so that welfare of those employed in the film industry can also be upheld.
The Health Minister also informed that strict guidelines will be released on Thursday and halls can start screening their moves from Friday onwards.
Actor Shiva Rajkumar pointed out that the film industry in its entirety has suffered losses as theatres remained closed due to Covid-19 and thus appealed to the audiences to respect Covid 19 guidelines.
