A Mangalore-based swadeshi organization has launched a drive to make Independence Day environmentally friendly. Paper Seed, a Swadeshi social entrepreneur organization, has produced eco-friendly colors and badges that can be used as seeds that sprout into plants after the festivities. Paper Seed has been producing eco-friendly flags and badges out of the paper pulp and seeds from diverse plants for this year’s Independence Day celebrations.
The clients have already been built through various social media channels. The majority of them are non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and other groups that focus on environmental and other related concerns. Hundreds of eco-friendly flags and badges have already been ordered from various regions of the state. The volunteers have been producing flags and badges out of paper pulp and seeds, and the flags and badges take one day to dry.
As per Nitin Vas, Passion fruit seeds have been blended into the pulp made from old newspapers. The passion fruit was chosen for the eco-friendly flags and badges because it is high in nutrients and has several health advantages. Passion fruit seeds have been brought in from Kerala. People can put their flags and badges in flowerpots or in the soil after the Independence Day celebrations to grow into plants.
Volunteers color the flags and badges once they have dried. Flags and badges have pins connected to them, so they may be pinned to shirts and other garments. While eco-friendly flags are available at Rs 5, badges are offered at Rs 15. The major goal of promoting environmentally friendly flags and badges is to eliminate the use of plastic. Even though this year’s Independence Day celebrations will be low-key owing to the epidemic, plastic materials are still accessible on the market. Plastic objects can be used in place of these environmentally friendly flags and badges.
Furthermore, Nitin mentioned that the group has previously presented paper seed Ganeshas for Chaturthi and similar eco-friendly rakhis for Raksha Bandhan and that this would inspire people to join the environmental cause.
