On a trial basis, sixteen solid waste management units are being established, of which the Goltamajalu in the Bantwal taluk and the Ujire in the Beltangady taluk are included in the Dakshina Kannada taluk (DK). The machines can manage 3,000 litres of solid trash.
Bantwal and Beltangady panchayats have already purchased sucking trucks that are operated by qualified personnel.
The units have been finished, and the tests are ready to start.The solid waste management facility at Chiminiguri of Goltamajalu village has been opened, and the rural areas of the Dakshina Kannada district have been certified free of open defecation.The units can manage the solid waste from 70 villages spread across 49 GPs, including 25 in Goltamajalu and 24 in Ujire.
Both the Rs. 82.2 lac grant for the Goltamajalu unit and the Rs. 58.39 lac grant for the Ujire unit have been used.
To oversee the units, technical and administrative committees have been established.
