In a bid to regulate fishing practices and safeguard marine resources, the authorities have announced a 61-day suspension of fishing activities along the coastal region of Karnataka. The suspension will be in effect from June 1 to July 31, aiming to promote sustainable fishing and preserve the fragile marine ecosystem.
Under the new regulations, mechanized boats employing any type of nets or equipment, as well as motorized boats exceeding 10 horsepower, will be prohibited from engaging in fishing activities during the designated period. However, fishermen have been granted permission to transport their boats and participate in coastal fishing using motorized engines with a capacity of up to 10 horsepower, as well as traditional country boats.
