The district tourism committee of Udupi has shown its support for floating restaurants along the backwaters of the district, as a step to promote the river and sea tourism. Opinions of entrepreneurs and those in the hospitality industry were invited by the committee headed by deputy commissioner G Jagadeesha.
The committee also decided to focus on getting a Blue Flag tag for Kodi beach in Kundapur, in order to tap into further tourism potential of the district. The primary survey to achieve this according to the specifications has been finished. Plans have also been made to develop various tourist amenities at Ottinene Tree Park, to make it a tourist hub.
In addition to these, the DC also gave instructions to the tourism department to formulate a plan that will make the beaches have their own sustainable model of development. This also will provide more opportunities to promote entrepreneurs. Taking into account the local population that faced difficulties due to the influx of tourists at Padubidiri Blue Flag Beach, the deputy commissioner directed the authorities to take up any developmental activities with the consultation with the locals. He also directed that they should be given the task of maintaining the main beach so as to ensure their participation in the development of the beach.
He also made it clear that all developmental work should be done within a timeframe and should be done according to the CRZ norms. The tourism department was also directed that the homestays should be compulsorily registered.
