Weekend Curfew: Life in Mangaluru City at a Standstill

The weekend curfew implemented by the State government as a measure to restrain the proliferating COVID-19 cases all over Karnataka has turned out to be quite a successful venture.

Beginning from Friday night, life in Mangaluru came to a halt continuing all the way till today. Saturday morning witnessed people gathering essential goods in the purview of the strict curfew that is to be lifted only on Monday morning.

However, April 25th has been even quieter as there was no movement seen on main roads as well as other areas all over the city. As stated under curfew guidelines, stores for essential supplies and pharmacies remained open, a few restaurants allowed takeaways, online food deliveries while markets allowed shoppers to buy commodities up until 10 am. Regrettably, amidst such strict curfew, few citizens were spotted with masks worn in an improper manner and some with no masks at all.

The police force has been absolutely vigilant, in order to prevent needless movement of citizens, and to ensure that the decorum of the curfew is well maintained. Within the limits of the Mangalore Commissionerate, 45 check posts are at function, with 5 to 6 personnel at each post and a total of nearly 800 cops deployed.

Hopefully, with the guidelines of the curfew and the responsible contribution of the citizens, the surging COVID-19 cases will soon be curbed.
