The Wipro Earthian 2020 Annual Award has been given to two schools in Dakshina Kannada (DK), one of which is a Kannada medium school. The Wipro Earthian Sustainability Development Project bestows the prize. One of the schools is DK Kannada Zilla Panchayat Model School, Moodambailu, Bantwal Taluk. The team member’s project was waste management.
For their best practices in water management, waste management, and biodiversity, Moodambailu school in Dakshina Kannada (DK) has been shortlisted for the ‘Best Sustainability School 2020’ award. Around 60 schools from the district had submitted competition entries. There were 20 winning entries, 17 shortlisted entries from schools, and eight winning entries from colleges. that they were chosen for the prize for their sustainability practices among DK schools.
The students had made doormats using old saris, pen stands, and flower pots from used pens, eco-bricks from plastic, bio-enzymes, and many others. Wipro will give them Rs 50,000 and other benefits which are yet to be announced. One team has now been shortlisted for the prestigious “Waste Management Project of the Year” award. Many activities were carried out to educate the people about the challenges. One of the kids engaged in the initiatives is delighted that others around them have altered their attitudes for a brighter tomorrow.
