Because of the new FDI laws for digital media ownership, Yahoo India has shut down its news sites, including Yahoo Cricket, Finance, News, Entertainment, and MAKERS India. Foreign ownership of media firms that operate and produce digital content in India in the ‘News and Current Affairs’ arena is limited under the new FDI restrictions for digital media.
Yahoo India, on the other hand, stated that Yahoo Mail and Yahoo Search will remain operational. They have stopped publishing material in India and shut down Yahoo’s content operations in the nation as of August 26, 2021. Yahoo News, Yahoo Cricket, Finance, Entertainment, and MAKERS India are among the content services that have been discontinued.
Yahoo India has been impacted by changes to regulatory regulations in India that now ban foreign ownership of media organisations that operate and produce digital content in India, the company said, adding that it did not make the decision lightly. Recognizing its long relationship with India, the business stated that it is open to new opportunities that connect it with the country’s users. Yahoo has a long history in India, and we’re proud of the exceptional, local content we’ve delivered to our consumers over the last two decades.
