11 Children From Dakshina Kannada, Attended PM’s Video Conference

11 children from Dakshina Kannada, attended Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s video conference at the DK Zilla panchayat on Monday. The Zilla panchayat had arranged for a screening of the PM’s video conference for the benefit of district children. Attended children were orphaned due to Covid-19.

Speaking from New Delhi, Modi said the government is with the children under the age of 18 who were orphaned in Covid-19. “Through the PM CARES programme, the government is committed to protecting the interests of children,” said the PM.

Deputy Commissioner K V Rajendra handed over the India Post passbook for Rs 10 lakh to 11 children on the occasion. The amount will remain in the joint account of 11 children and the DC till the beneficiary attains 18 years of age. Later, the amount will be transferred to the accounts of beneficiaries and they will be able to utilize the money with interest-only at the age of 23, the DC said.

Women and child welfare department deputy director Papa Bovi, child protection officer Yamuna senior superintendent of Posts, Mangaluru division N Shri Harsha and Child Welfare Committee chairman Renni D’Souza were part of the program.
