Cash lanes at toll gates located on National Highways will remain functional till February 15, 2021 announced the Ministry of Road and Highways on Thursday. Payments at toll plazas can be made using FASTag as well as via cash transactions.
A few weeks ago, the government had passed an order that made it mandatory for travellers to pay only via FASTag at toll gates from January 1. 2021. It had also mentioned that when the above order comes into effect, cash lanes shall remain closed. However, the clarification to this statement was made and allowed an extension for the rule to be put to effect.
FASTag in M and N categories of those vehicles that were sold before December 1, 2020 must have the FASTag January 1.2020. Vehicles that carry at least four-wheelers are those included in the M categories while both freight carriers and passenger carriers are those in the N categories. Hundred percent e-tolling will be rolled out from January 1.
