Gauri Suhas Rao : Dance is my Passion

A professional dancer, a choreographer and a dance fitness instructor, this Mangalorean is known for being one of the best choreographers in the town along with being one of the few female dance choreographers to have expertise of over 19 years. 

She has secured a bachelor in fine arts degree in History, Carnatic Music (vocal) and Bharatnatyam from Sandesha College of Fine Arts, Nanthoor which is affiliated to Mangalore University. In addition, she has done nursery training from Sanjeevini Montessori. She owns a dance studio called Ocean Kids Dance Professionals and is a leading teacher there. She has performed in many shows across the country. 

Being a dancer since a young age, she believes that it was the fact that dance is an art of expression that fascinated her and made her work hard to master it. Even when the society told her that a career in dance or any art form is not advisable, she kept her passion and love for it strong. She urges that if one is righteous in her ways whatever be one’s choice of career, they can make it and she did.

Rao has choreographed and conducted dance workshops in institutions like NITK, Surathkal, Infosys, Mangalore and Rotary Club among others. She has also been a jury member for national as well as state dance competitions. She is interested and has trained in acting by enrolling herself in various workshops. 

Dance can also be a mode of attaining a healthy body. Fitness through entertaining and interesting dance routines is what Rao teaches in her exclusively ladies aerobics class. She has been an instructor in Rx Life. She also conducts dance classes for children between the ages of 2 to 12 and is a member of Hakuna Matata Club House and Creations Summer camp for children.Rao is also a founding member of the Bimba Trust which encourages cultural activities among children under the guidance of National Award winning director Shri Kasargod Chinna.  In these ventures, she tries to bring forth the love for art and foster the skills of children for they are what will make society a better place. 

Moreover, she is a model who has appeared in advertisements of brands such as Chemmanur Jewellers, Ideal Ice creams and Maya Traders among others.
