Karnataka Losses KSRTC Tag To Kerala

Netizens in Karnataka are expressing displeasure on social media about losing the acronym KSRTC to Kerala. Kerala Transport Minister Antony Raju stated that they received an order from the registrar of trademarks holding that KSRTC trademark can be used only by Kerala State. This was a trending topic on Twitter on Thursday.

Some netizens expressed that the Karnataka Road Transport provides better service than the Kerala Road Transport. Some of them tweeted that the Karnataka busses are highly maintained but Kerala transport is still in its 80s.

Some of them tweeted that they can take the name but not the quality. They also shared that the Karnataka transport is the best in the nation and nothing can replace the brand value and services created by Karnataka.

There were tweets which shared messages telling them it’s a name but for Karnataka it’s a trademark and no other bus service in the country has the quality of Karnataka bus services. There were tweets that blamed politicians for the cause as well. They stated that Kerala can claim the name but AIRAWAT and AMBAARI is itself a brand.

Some alternatives for the name were also discussed. Karnataka Road Transport Coperation, Karnataka Rajya Rasthe Sarige Nigama, KARTC, KRTC, Namma KSRTC, Akhanda Karnataka Road Transport Corporation and NSKRTC (Nava Karnataka State Road Transport) and Kalyana Karnataka State Road Transport are some of the suggestions.

The president of KSRTC Staff and Workers Federation has said that he is surprised to know that after 27 years of litigation the issue is decreed in favour of Kerala. They’ve suggested renaming it to KnSRTC.

The officials maintained there are no plans to change the corporation’s name. Karnataka registered the trademark in KSRTC’s name in 2013 and the Kerala Government stated that it began the service in 1965 while Karnataka started it in 1973.

The deputy chief minister and transport minister said that there is no difference with Kerala RTC over using KSRTC. He also added that the state will move legally once the official order arrives.

He also said that all the states should maintain a friendly relationship with others and it is unfortunate that the controversy has broken out. Such issues will affect business and profit in case of private companies. For the government services to people are more important and both states are working for the people’s welfare. He also mentioned that this is not something that Kerala can celebrate.
