Libraries in gram Panchayat to be turned into Digital classrooms

The Education minister S Suresh Kumar held a meeting with educational experts and advisor to the government of Karnataka on academics Prof Dor Swamy and Prashanth Prakash to implement the project in gram panchayath across the state.

 The minister told the media that it has become and imperative for the government to reach out to the children through digital formats such as online classes in a new environment after the Covid crisis. He added that necessary actions will be taken to provide education to the left out students by using the libraries and gram panchayath. This is an attempt by the Karnataka government to reach out to the children who are not able to take online classes and do not have television facilities.

The decision was made in view after a survey conducted by the Department of Public Instruction.  The survey reported that 31 lakh students out of 93 lakh students studying SSLC do not have a smartphone. Around 8 lakh children did not have access to radio or television. 

Devices for educational purposes would be installed in about 5,766 gram panchayats. The students who cannot afford accessories will be benefitted by the plan. Rural development department and Panchayat Raj officials are working on implementing the initiative.
