Earlier a Detailed Project Report to construct a 12 km long cycling pathway from the main Road at Marnamikatta to Father Muller’s was submitted to the Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) by Mangalore Smart City Ltd. this project has finally been approved by the MCC and the aforementioned cycling tracks have been given the green light to be constructed. They will of course be passing through or adjacent to various lanes and main roads at different points in the city.
The building process has been divided into different phases. In the first package which consists of Rs 2.72 crores, a four-kilometer long pathway originating from the riverfront in Bolara to the mini Vidhana Soudha in Hampankatta will be built after which in package two, another eight-kilometer long pathway will be built, this time originating from Kudmul Ranga Rao Town Hall to TMA Pai Hall on M G Road, Marnamikatta, and further till the Father Muller Hospital at Kankanady. Additionally, tracks will be laid down from S L Mathais Road to Sturruck Road.
However, the track being laid down from the Town Hall to the TMA Pai Hall will not be passing through the main road and will instead be passing through identified lanes. On the contrary, the two routes to be bullet both between Marnamikatta and Father Muller’s and S. L Mathais Road to Sturruck Road will be adjacent to and/or passing through main roads. The passing of four-wheelers through cycling tracks set to pass through lanes will be prohibited.
