The Department of Telecom changed its no-objection certificate criteria for the sale or rental of foreign roaming SIM cards to better safeguard customers. The change is intended to aid Indian tourists visiting other countries while also streamlining procedures in line with other licenses.
The amended regulation requires NOC holders to include provisions for delivering information about customer service, contact information, an escalation matrix, itemized bills, tariff plans, and services supplied, among other things. Billing and consumer grievance redress mechanisms have also been strengthened, with a provision for an Appellate Authority in the Department of Transportation, to allow for timely settlement of grievances by NOC holders.
