Driving without a valid license carries an Rs. 5,000/-, while other invalid documents carry fines of 5,000 (registration certificate), 10,000 (permit), and Rs. 2,000 – 5,000/- (fitness certificate) respectively. The state transportation department has been flooded with requests for driver’s licenses, fitness certifications, and permit renewals. Only about 80 tests are performed every day now. The number of learners’ license online examinations has dropped to 50 per day, stated the department. A second transport official highlighted social distancing conventions as a reason for capping the number of daily driving tests at RTOs. “As a result, demand is significantly higher. We’re also attempting to raise awareness of the Central Government’s recent relaxation of regulations for expired transportation papers. As a result, there’s no need to worry and rush to the RTOs to renew your license right now. “
